Hasee Toh Phasee opens today and the (positive) reviews are pouring in. Of course, I’m scooping them up and cataloging them away until I watch and write one of my own, but now that we’re so close, I thought I’d share some film stills and thoughts from the actors themselves on their characters, their chemistry and their hopes for the film. And, as luck would have it, the two stars, aren’t the only ones gabbing about the film. Recently their producers (at 43 secs) also sat down with CNN-IBN’s Entertainment Editor, Rajeev Masand, to discuss their unlikely pairing and the inception of what’s being deemed a “quirky love story.” Continue reading One More For Hasee Toh Phasee
When the tracks for the Dharma-Phantom co-production Hasee Toh Phasee began to drop over a month ago, I had a feeling it’d be the final video release that would win me over.
Then “Manchala” officially hit the net on Tuesday and well as always, I was glad I gave it a little time.
***And did I mention how much I adore that official poster?!
With only two days to go, co-stars Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra have been busy beavers, what with, snagging the cover of February’s Filmfare Magazine, launching their film’s mobile app last week and now jetting to Dehli—- all to promote their new romantic comedy, Hasee Toh Phasee, co-produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap.
I always thought, if ever the stars aligned just slightly, and Anurag Kashyap (Phantom Productions) and Karan Johar (Dharma Productions) did a film collaboration, I’d jump at the chance to see what they decided to come up with but honestly, I never believed that day would come. For, even with their contributions in last year’s Hindi film industry anniversary project Bombay Talkies, their genres are usually poles apart, as well as, their film ideologies. So when I read they were working together again, this time on the same film, I was elated but very surprised by the genre— rom-com.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a decent rom-com (clearly) but to date all my favorites from Kashyap have either been darker comedies or human pieces, whereas I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a rom-com from Johar since I Hate Luv Storys and that’s not saying much. But the inkling that somehow these two men can come together and possibly bring the best of themselves to the screen, has me terribly hopeful and intrigued. Seems like summer is determined to go out with a bang, given the heat wave saturating my nation and many around the globe. And though it has been fairly uncomfortable, I’ve found ways to stay cool with all the delightful summer romance releases from Dramaland and the Filmsphere. From hot bods to sizzling chemistry, lots of love and action are in store for the next couple months and I plan to soak it all in. But after clapping eyes on the pic above, I also realized there are several visual re-enactments I need to do before this current heat wave dissipates from scorching to shivery.
Over the last couple months, I’ve seen Shuddh Desi Romance bopping around and it immediately caught my attention for two reasons: it’s a Yash Raj Productions romantic comedy and a Parineeti Chopra starrer. Both give me reason to believe this film is worth my time and just might may live up to the moniker of “a romantic comedy that tells it like it is, and is not.”
Plus with its release last week, bringing in nothing but positive chatter and being set to be screened in the Gala Presentation of the Toronto Film Festival, there’s no way I’m passing up this possible gem.
