The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

Do you hear that?

♫Girls you know you better watch out
Some guys, some guys are only about
That thing, that thing, that thing♫

Now, of course, Lauryn’s context is completely different but “that thing” is certainly the line I hear in my head, when this Oppa breezes by. There is just something about him. He has that thing, that thing about him, that makes him simply irresistible. For years, he was known to be aloof, quiet and stand-offish, until recently when he’s begun to open up and embrace his star status revealing his intelligent, witty side.

He’s also branched and become the CEO of his own company [which he plans to use to groom budding talents], has more than just a passing interest in travel and photography and has even ventured to fulfill his dream of entering the hip hop scene, rapping under the alias G, under which, he has released several solo and collaborative EPs. sjs_dcholiday2015-06_zpswp71vszq

But, with all of that, he’s still best known for his roles in forever and cult classics like I’m Sorry, I Love You and What Happened In Bali (and rightfully so). Even now, he’s carving a nice niche for himself as charming and funny in Oh My Venus, which aired its penultimate episode today.

Like I said before, this list has fallen on perfect days, for as we say “Hello” to a new year, we will also bid “Farewell” to our #1 Oppa. Unfortunately our list isn’t all inclusive because individually and collectively this list could probably sustain us all the way until March, therefore, just like we had to have a starting point, there must be an end.

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

Down to the final two and tomorrow begins our first full official week of the 2016!!

For this Oppa, I wonder what a regular work week looks like for him. Many of the Oppas on our list are double dippers—working full time in two arenas but not all are considered charismatic, talented actors. He began as a model and transitioned into acting, which to be honest, I don’t think there’s a camera that doesn’t love him. His screen presence is fiery and he’s able to create characters that are comedic and sexy all wrapped into one.

Whether on the runway or the big or small screen, he commands attention with his confidence and demeanor. Even better, he acts as influence and encouragement to other models like, himself who would like to pursue acting careers.

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

A064_C003_0413GCOften, when I see this Oppa, I wonder, how does he do it? How is it possible to look better today, than when he debuted? Has he found some spring well hidden in the crevice of the earth secret from the rest of mankind? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not concerned about my age or getting older in the traditional sense… What I’m concerned about is how he continues to look amazing and what effects that fact will have on my aging body and psyche.

Yes, yes, I can’t begrudge the man for taking care of himself and honestly, what can he really do about the blessing of his genes? But seriously Oppa, all I need is for you to think of me, just think of me (well, us) just once in awhile— hanbon mahn is all we need. Call? The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

Hope you all have had a wonderful holiday! The new year snuck up on me so quickly, I’ve barely had time to digest the year that’s passed, let alone think about what is in store for this new one. What about you? Have you swept 2015 away, ready to face 2016? As always, my prayer is that this year is better for you than the last, that you learn from your mistakes and live and love greater, with more conviction, purpose and understanding! And of course, may we watch dramas happily and enjoy stories to their fullest in the upcoming year!

*FYI: Our next Oppa and Ekun’s Bonus are actually close friends in real life… Ah, who doesn’t like starting the new year with a bromance?! Back to the Countdown

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

This Oppa is the perfect man to end 2015 with because he is the Oppa I have seen the most of this year. He chose to lead two consecutive long running sageuks and that fact alone should prove that this man loves his job! His passion for what he does and his outlook on his work is impressive. Just about as much as his dedication to his family and loyalty to his tight-knit set of friends. He’s an actor that believes that doing your best from opportunity to opportunity is the best form of doing well.

In a recent interview, when asked about what he’d do “next,” referring to something after acting, he admits that has never thought of doing anything else, but he is always thinking of what is next. For he sees being an actor as being a freelancer, therefore, he needs to constantly be aware of how he presents himself from project to project so that people will desire to work with him again— “That’s the only way I get ‘next.'” Continue reading The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa
