TvN Makes Another ‘The Good Wife’

jdytgw01_zpsnih9q0pxThe rumor of a remake doesn’t always make me happy. Especially, when it’s country to country, small screen to small screen, for though there are several things that are relatable the world over, like a woman who finds herself back in the working world, after being a house wife for over fifteen years— the elements have to be presented in a way that not only stays true to the original work, yet reflects the culture. And for me, here in lies my hesitation. TvN ended 2015 announcing their intention of tackling CBS hit series The Good Wife with an offer of the titular role to movie actress Jeon Do-yeon. Personally, I’d hoped to wait on discussing this drama until it aired but once Jeon was mentioned I knew immediately if there is any actress I’d like to see do this role, it’s Do-yeon, simply because I love the woman. But even with all the love, there is plenty of fear on my part about where the production will take it, given the writer is Han Sung-woon.

The CBS show has now entered the second half of its seventh season and while I’ve found that it has fared well over all, it was certainly strongest during its first four. The show fuses, law and love, marriage ans family, as it transitions its female lead from her life’s unaware wallflower to instinctive commander. And I suppose if there is a network that can weave those elements into something winning and captivating, it’s definitely TvN. A remake would be lovely in terms of a 16-20 episode format, for there is so much material to deal with and a tightly woven condensed story could be just as spellbinding and heady as Secret Love Affair. There is always the concern for watered-down or down played content, but I’d like to believe Jeon won’t sign on to something that didn’t guarantee expounding on the darker facets of the story’s narrative and main character, like prostitution, dirty politics and adultery.  jdytgw02_zpse1k7os76

For now, we’re looking at a 2016 airdate, but that’s tentative, and who knows, if they steer toward pre-production, we may not see this one until we’re closer to ringing in 2017.

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

sjs_dcholiday2015-01

Do you hear that?

♫Girls you know you better watch out
Some guys, some guys are only about
That thing, that thing, that thing♫

Now, of course, Lauryn’s context is completely different but “that thing” is certainly the line I hear in my head, when this Oppa breezes by. There is just something about him. He has that thing, that thing about him, that makes him simply irresistible. For years, he was known to be aloof, quiet and stand-offish, until recently when he’s begun to open up and embrace his star status revealing his intelligent, witty side.

He’s also branched and become the CEO of his own company [which he plans to use to groom budding talents], has more than just a passing interest in travel and photography and has even ventured to fulfill his dream of entering the hip hop scene, rapping under the alias G, under which, he has released several solo and collaborative EPs. sjs_dcholiday2015-06_zpswp71vszq

But, with all of that, he’s still best known for his roles in forever and cult classics like I’m Sorry, I Love You and What Happened In Bali (and rightfully so). Even now, he’s carving a nice niche for himself as charming and funny in Oh My Venus, which aired its penultimate episode today.

Like I said before, this list has fallen on perfect days, for as we say “Hello” to a new year, we will also bid “Farewell” to our #1 Oppa. Unfortunately our list isn’t all inclusive because individually and collectively this list could probably sustain us all the way until March, therefore, just like we had to have a starting point, there must be an end.

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

Down to the final two and tomorrow begins our first full official week of the 2016!!

For this Oppa, I wonder what a regular work week looks like for him. Many of the Oppas on our list are double dippers—working full time in two arenas but not all are considered charismatic, talented actors. He began as a model and transitioned into acting, which to be honest, I don’t think there’s a camera that doesn’t love him. His screen presence is fiery and he’s able to create characters that are comedic and sexy all wrapped into one.

Whether on the runway or the big or small screen, he commands attention with his confidence and demeanor. Even better, he acts as influence and encouragement to other models like, himself who would like to pursue acting careers.

The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

A064_C003_0413GCOften, when I see this Oppa, I wonder, how does he do it? How is it possible to look better today, than when he debuted? Has he found some spring well hidden in the crevice of the earth secret from the rest of mankind? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not concerned about my age or getting older in the traditional sense… What I’m concerned about is how he continues to look amazing and what effects that fact will have on my aging body and psyche.

Yes, yes, I can’t begrudge the man for taking care of himself and honestly, what can he really do about the blessing of his genes? But seriously Oppa, all I need is for you to think of me, just think of me (well, us) just once in awhile— hanbon mahn is all we need. Call? The Distractors’ Holiday Cut: Countdown with Oppa

jisung_dcholiday2015-01Actors become renowned for many reasons but for most actors it’s that one role, that one film, that one thing they did, that one time, that sticks to them for the remainder of their career and while those things aren’t always good, this next Oppa has certainly found a way to be better.

After wrapping pretty much the best drama of 2015 earlier this year, he set out in preparation for the summer birth of his first child and an unprecedented solo concert in lieu of a traditional fan meeting, which was a success at the beginning of this month.

And today, Oppa was in the news for finally getting the much deserved recognition for his talent, time and commitment! Last night, he was presented the Daesang at the MBC Awards for his stellar performance in Kill Me, Heal Me. He and his co-star Park Seo-joon also cheekily won the Best Couple Award.

CONGRATULATIONS OPPA!

jisung_dcholiday2015-04Name: Ji Sung (Kwak Tae-geun)

Unnichan: I don’t know about you, but Ji Sung is an Oppa that kind of crept up on me. He’s done lead roles since Save the Last Dance, I think but I didn’t really notice him until New Heart, and even then my highest priority was Jo Jae-hyun. Which means, it was definitely his performance in Swallow the Sun holding his own opposite Jun Kwang-rul that sold me with him. And he’s basically been on a roll (for me anyway), ever since. jisung_dcholiday2015-02

Ekun: Swallow! Lawrd Swallow! While I hated the it towards the end, my love for Ji Sung was real and true! I agree that he has been on a roll since then. His last role in Kill Me, Heal Me literally had me in tears almost every time I turned it on! Do-hyun… Se-gi…js_sgkmhm2015-01js_sgkmhm2015-02js_sgkmhm2015-03js_ynkmhm2015-01
Yoo-na?
Girl! Hahaha! That was pure talent I didn’t know he had! Hahahahaha!!!!!
jisung_dcholiday2015-06

Unnichan: He has to go down in history for his performance in KMHM! Yoo-na changed my life forever! Now he’s a father and hopefully, after his recent concert he will take a break. That role wiped him out (and for good reason). I am willing to give him some father drama leave for awhile. ‘Cause I definitely need him in top form for whatever he chooses next.

Ekun: He is a father now isn’t he? Yay! People procreating is always an exciting thing… As long as I am not the one having to birth the children. I agree, much needed rest is in order. I will patiently wait for his reprisal to dramas and movies. jisung_dcholiday2015-07

Unnichan: I want to believe we can be patient. He and Lee Bo-young are so adorable together, I can only imagine them doting on their newborn baby girl. Many happy returns Oppa!!!

3a78fd42-f0a5-49a1-b61b-b5d91be5e57c_zpszt6kke4w Be still my beating heart! Jung Kyung-ho has this voodoo ability to make you believe in what he is selling. The only reason I continued to watch Ja Myung Go was to see him. I did not see him in Smile,You, but when he came back from military—Heartless City was on and poppin’! So were my ovaries with the Doctor’s son.jkh_dcholiday2015cover05

Kyung-ho is adorable and has qualities that seem adorkable. But do not let that hoodwink you away from his dangerous glares. I want to catch him in something this year. *fingers crossed*jkh_dcholiday2015cover03

I just love this look! The denim jacket under a sportcoat?! Genius!
