As promised, UTV premiered the trailer of Vishal Bharadwaj‘s latest Shakespearean feat Haider on Wednesday July 9th, along with its main cast in attendance, including the director, his wife and the fantastic Kay Kay Menon (Life in a Metro, Sarkar), who also appears in the film in a nefarious role, at PVR Cinemas in Mumbai.
The film is a modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” set in the wintry backdrop of Kashmir.
I can’t be the only one who wants an entire film of tumultuous, tortured and tragic love between Tabu (Hum Saith Saith Hain, Life of Pi) and Shahid Kapoor after seeing that trailer! Those two are so electric within this quick blink, there’s no doubt the forbidden equation between them, will scorch us all. And given that is the vibe from the onset, shows the tone of their dynamic is pitch perfect considering the narrative.
Shraddha Kapoor is growing on me, with the more exposure, therefore, I am very hopeful for her turn as the irrevocably devoted “Ophelia.” She’s by no means a Helena Bonham-Carter but from what’s revealed, her spiral may not be as emotionally exigent.
Little has been said about Kay Kay Menon’s role but given the trailer, he seems to be setup as the King Claudius archetype in this story and the very thought is absolutely delicious. But I guess, we’ll all have to wait until October to find out.
