Like clockwork, the most anticipated drama of the new season is tossing out teaser after teaser and yesterday, they dropped their first string of character posters with the high Valyrian inscription, “Valar Morghulis”— All men must die.
For me, it’s a coin toss between the siblings Jon Snow and Arya Stark posters on who gets my choice as best image and though it’s no surprise that I consider my favorite characters having the best visuals around (try to guess who they may be…), I can’t deny there is something unsettling but beautiful about each and every one.
The dramatic effect of the greys and blood red hue mist, sets to remind me that though my desire is for most of these characters to live to die another day, that won’t always be the case. There will be more tragedy, more separation and much more destruction and disappointment for the majority of the personalities depicted.
Much like season one, I believe this season will be very defining and altering, diverging the paths and rights of our characters even farther, which makes me both anticipate and dread what lies ahead. When I think about GoT, I’m often confronted with the romanticism of life, that though there are no guarantees or human promises that can not be broken, hope remains, no matter how small the speck may be.
And as long as there’s hope, there’s a fight within us all to conquer.
Game of Thrones premieres April 6th.
