First Look: Lootera Posters

Ok, I admit, it’s a little late to consider this post a first look… (being this film will premiere on Friday) but, I was scrolling through my pictures for this film and realized that I just loved each and every poster for this movie.

There is something tender, endearing and classic about each one, that makes me dream this will be a love story that will make my heart soar into a million tiny jagged pieces.

Lootera [translated– Robber] is a period love story about a mysterious archaeologist who travels to a small village in West Bengal and embarks on a captivating romance with a local girl, then disappears.

The film is inspired by O. Henry‘s short story The Last Leaf, therefore, themes like love and longing are ones to look for. The film’s writer/director, Vikramaditya Motwane commented that the first portion of the film is his original and the latter, a loose interpretation of Henry’s premise. So, if you haven’t read the story, it’s a prime time to prep before the weekend.

These posters evoke a bittersweet whimsy and capture an intimacy, I hope transcends to screen. There’s something light and enchanting, set within each capture; a type of warmth and comfort that expresses an attitude of enduring maturity rarely expounded upon concerning love.

Ranveer Singh (Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl) and Sonakshi Sinha (Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar) lead the cast and look absolutely lovely together, therefore, I pray the story, sentiment and portrayals live up to the visuals. Singh has been quiet on the release front for the past two years, but, comes back full force with roles in four films that will be in theaters steadily from now until the middle of next year.  He also happens to be one of my favorite newcomers (Lootera marks his third film) and I have no doubt his performance will set his year into high speed.

This poster is my absolute favorite! It’s not original, but natural and nostalgic, which exhibits the type of wonder I have stepping into this film.

Now, if only I could clearly see the reflection in her eyes.

Let Lootera steal you away this Friday, July 5th.
