Sneak Peek: Game of Thrones Season 3

WINTER IS COMING! And goodness knows that I bought my coat and hat months ago, but that doesn’t mean I’m not checking the forecast everyday so I don’t miss the first toe nipping wind current or smallest flurry. Therefore, there’s no way I could keep the nibbles of news HBO has been trickling over the last month.

Game of Thrones is my personal favorite television serial and while I am engrossed in the written series, I am ecstatic the cast and crew will be lighting up my screen once again this March with their third season. We’ve already been introduced to the new cast members (1&2), now we get a glimpse into how this season will look and feel.

Season three will be based on George R. R. Martin’s third novel installment to his fantasy series, A Song of Ice and FireStorm of Swords. This is going to be a major season of change and uprooting, whether it be characters or locations. Some of the things we have known and loved about the story with be turned on it’s head, while others will be more like a guilty prayer granted. Natalie Dormer put it best when she said, “The strength of this show, is that nothing is ever completely sacred.” And that is the crux Martin’s third book hinges on. I, for one, give the creators of the series kudos for remaining true to that essence within his storytelling, for it breathes richness into the plot that burgeons the pace of this show, and though not perfect, it definitely makes you believe it may very well be.

If by chance you haven’t seen this drama or read these novels, you still have time. Winter is coming, but it’s not quite here yet.

Game of Thrones season 3 begins March 31, 2013.
